March 15: Travel Day, Fly from the US to Antigua, Guatemala. Antigua is a picturesque city in Guatemala’s highlands, known for its well-preserved colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and vibrant culture. Founded in 1543, Antigua served as the capital of the Spanish colony until 1773 when earthquakes prompted a move to Guatemala City.

March 16: Introduction and Ride to San Marcos La Laguna (75 miles). Group meeting for introductions, acclimatization, and a talk on riding protocol. We’ll pick up our motorcycles and ride to San Marcos La Laguna, with possible side trips around Lake Atitlán. The day’s journey is all paved roads, including a short segment on CA1 (Pan American Highway). Lake Atitlán is a volcanic lake renowned for its beauty, surrounded by the towering volcanoes of San Pedro, Atitlán, and Tolimán.

March 17: Ride to Todos Santos Cuchumatán (115 miles). We ride to Todos Santos Cuchumatán, finishing the day on backcountry dirt roads. Hotel accommodations here are basic but the best available. Todos Santos Cuchumatán is a captivating highland town, known for its indigenous culture, unique traditions, and vibrant celebrations.

March 18: Ride Around Todos Santos and to Nebaj (171 miles). This ride will be a mix of dirt roads and two-lane paved roads, taking us through the altiplano with its sweeping views, rugged mountains, grasslands, and rocky formations. We’ll reach an altitude of 12,000 feet during this journey.

March 19: Tour and Ride Through the Ixil Triangle. Morning tour of the Life and Hope Medical Clinic, a ministry of Missionary Ventures, to understand the work our ride supports. In the afternoon, we’ll take a 40-mile ride through the Ixil Triangle, covering both dirt and paved roads.

The Ixil Triangle, located in the highlands of Quiché, is a culturally rich area where the Maya Ixil people maintain traditional language and customs within the towns of Nebaj, Chajul, and Cotzal.

March 20: Return to Antigua (130 miles). We ride back to Antigua, mostly on two-lane pavement, with a short stretch back on CA1. We’ll recap the ride over a steak dinner!

Not included: Lunch, as we snack on the road. We suggest bringing snacks such as protein bars or beef jerky.

Notes:

Total Riding Distance: Approximately 530+ miles. Central American roads have their quirks with potholes, chicken buses, and speed bumps, so be ready for an adventure! Expect around 5 hours of riding daily, plus stops. Dirt or adventure riding experience is preferred, but as long as you’re a confident rider, you’re welcome.

Hotel Accommodations: Double rooms; single rooms available with an additional fee. Please notify us in advance if you prefer a single room.

Gear: Bring a dry bag/backpack, saddle bags, and possibly a tank bag. The bikes have back racks only. A large dry bag from Giant Loop or another manufacture or a soft bag system works well.

Safety Gear: Boots with ankle support and long-sleeve protection (preferably a riding jacket) are required. The sun at altitude can be intense, so sun protection is essential. We’ll ride during the dry season with moderate temperatures.

Rider Limit: 8

A $250 deposit holds your spot, refundable only if the trip is canceled by us. A non-refundable $750 payment allows us to book your airfare; receiving this payment sooner helps secure better fares. The remaining balance is due by February 15.
