Changing Lives Through Faith and Skill
Missionary Ventures’ Trade School in the Dominican Republic
In the heart of Redemption Village in Sosúa, Dominican Republic, a quiet revolution is taking place—a revolution not of politics or power, but of hope, faith, and opportunity. Led locally by MV missionary Rick Sucher, Missionary Ventures is transforming lives through its trade school, a place where education meets evangelism, and skills meet salvation.
For many students, Infotech is more than just a place to learn a profession; it’s a place where they encounter Jesus. “If we’re only running programs without sharing Jesus,” Rick says, “then we should either shut down the ministry or make a major change.”
Every class begins with prayer and devotion, and every few months, the school hosts gatherings where the Gospel is shared more directly, allowing students to explore faith in a safe and nurturing environment.
Since taking over the school more than two years ago, the team has been working tirelessly to restore and upgrade the facilities, digitize records, and ensure the trade school is not just functional, but thriving.
Under the guidance of Ester, who is certified in 28 government-accredited classes, students can choose from various courses ranging from short-term certifications to multi-year programs in fields like electrical work. The school works closely with the Dominican government to provide accredited instruction that is recognized in 27 countries worldwide.
The results speak for themselves. In just over two years, the trade school has graduated 491 students, with over 180 expected to graduate this year alone. Many of these graduates have gone on to better jobs, started their own businesses, and, most importantly, encountered Christ in a transformative way.
The school’s approach is relational. Many students do not attend church, but through the intentional care and mentorship of Rick, Ester, and their team, students experience God’s love firsthand. During a recent gathering, more than 120 students joined a visiting mission team for worship, drama, and an evangelistic message that offered a challenge for salvation—a powerful moment where education and faith intersected.
Challenges remain—teacher availability, class sizes, and scheduling can slow progress—but the team approaches each obstacle with prayer and perseverance. Community surveys are underway to tailor future classes to local needs while continuing to introduce students to the Gospel.
Guided by James 2:14-17, this ministry demonstrates that faith without action is dead. Here in Sosúa, faith is alive, practical, and life-changing—manifested not only in certificates and job skills but in hearts open to Jesus and communities transformed by His love.
Through education, mentorship, and unwavering devotion to sharing the Gospel, Missionary Ventures’ trade school is proving that real change comes when faith meets action—one student, one skill, one soul at a time.
