On January 14, an underwater volcano near the islands of Tonga exploded and sent a tsunami across the islands, as well as falling rock and ash. MVI has ministered in Tonga for many years through our partner Willy Florian and Tonga Christian Radio. Willy, his family, and the radio station hosts are all ok, although traumatized like the rest of the country. They have still been able to broadcast for a few hours a day due to power supply limitations. All communication with Tonga was originally lost, and Willy has only been able to connect sporadically through satellite phone about the needs of the community. The biggest immediate concern is clean water. Willy reports that the water catchments are polluted with ash fall-out. We are also committed to long-term rebuilding as Willy and the radio team help their community recover from this disaster.
