Blessed to be a Blessing
Ebenezer has never been a wealthy man.
He grew up in northern Ghana in a town called WaleWale, where the average income is less than $10/day and about 25% of the population lives below the poverty line. But as a young man, Ebenezer soon learned that wealth wasn’t measured by material possessions. Ebenezer was born into a non-Christian family but became a believer in Jesus in 1993 at the age of 18, grasping his eternal wealth in the kingdom of God. He was rejected by his family but he continued to tell others about his faith in Christ. He became a pastor in 2005, and today is pastoring two churches as well as running a Christian school. He and his wife, Grace, now have five children and six adopted children. The youngest, Miracle, is 3 years old.
He may not be a wealthy man, but he is very blessed.
Then came a day when he could have questioned God’s blessings. A fire started at his house and he lost the few material possessions he owned. He suspects arson from an angry former teacher who didn’t want to participate in devotions. After the fire Ebenezer found a note indicating worse things would happen.
But Ebenezer didn’t give up his faith, and only hugged Miracle tightly and thanked God that she escaped from the house unharmed. The fire had started near where she had been asleep not long before.
Ebenezer and Grace have continued to trust in Christ despite Ghana’s poverty and the push of other religions. They stand in hope and continue sharing the message of the gospel.
This April, Ebenezer got a special blessing. A team with MVI and the Christian Motorcyclists Association visited Ghana to bless pastors and evangelists with transportation to expand their ministry. Ebenezer was one of six pastors in WaleWale gifted a motorcycle to expand his ministry. The team prayed with Ebenezer for his ministry and family as they presented him with the bike. The smile stayed on his face all day.
Ebenezer may not be a wealthy man, but he is blessed indeed.
