Bio

Josh and Jennifer Hire, along with their three children, Lucy, Henry, and Maggie, lived and served in the northern jungles of Peru from 2016 to 2025. During those years, they partnered closely with local believers and leaders to strengthen the church among the Shawi people.

Josh now serves with MV as the Director of Church Strengthening, where he networks with, mentors, and encourages missionaries around the world as they pursue healthy, thriving churches within their communities.

Though now residing in the United States, Josh and Jennifer continue to oversee and support the work in Peru. A central part of this ministry is the Shawi Discipleship Center, a training hub dedicated to equipping Shawi church leaders. MV Perú also engages in advocacy alongside our Shawi brothers and sisters, supporting initiatives in healthcare, clean water, education, and agricultural development.

Our vision is to see a church that is self-governing, self-replicating, and self-supporting, led by men and women firmly grounded in Kingdom principles.

The Shawi Discipleship Center is used for spiritual training, retreats, and workshops.

The spiritual training ranges in level from basic discipleship through a Bible Institute offered by our co-worker.  New believers in villages with no existing church quickly move into leadership roles out of necessity as they evangelize others in their communities.  Training these new believers is critical because while they do continue to receive visits from those who brought the gospel message to them, many are in remote locations and visits every month or so are insufficient.  Basic discipleship is designed for these newest Christian leaders.  For those who have completed this training, we’re developing a second level of discipleship which will include leadership and stewardship training.  Our co-worker Susan then offers a Bible Institute for those who wish to pursue a post secondary degree in Biblical Studies.

Along with biblical training, we have used the center for retreats.  Most recently, we’ve hosted high school aged Shawi youth for summer camp.  We hope to expand our retreats to include one for pastors and another for young married couples.

Finally, we hope to use the center for other workshops including Sunday school teacher and worship training.  There have also been requests for small engine repair, sewing, and agricultural workshops.
