At Home in Honduras
For more than 20 years, Missionary Ventures has had a ministry presence in Honduras, with long-term missionaries and teams building partnerships and equipping local believers to help transform their communities.
While Honduras has significant cultural Christianity, there is still a pervasive “poverty of spirit” mentality that has hindered many people from becoming all that God has for them. MVI has poured into Christian schools with a vision to change that mentality, as they teach children to have a biblical worldview of hope and confidence in God’s plans.
The vision to transform communities is vast and multi-faceted. There are many factors that influence a person’s ability to thrive. One issue in the community is women being abandoned by their husbands. Without education and often with children to care for, this can put the women in desperate situations. To help with this problem, MVI has helped build homes for the women. The women then have a place to care for their children, and we’ve found that many times, the husband will return to what has become a stable environment. A row of stilt homes is now providing housing for many families with a thriving church at the start of the row. In one family, the wife is pregnant (due next month) with her fourth child and the husband can work on his electronic and refrigerator repair business out of their home. This is just one family, but one family who now has a stable environment and an influential church right next door. What a difference from the scenario that might have been.
And that’s our dream all around the world. To create thriving communities where people have a chance to encounter to the life-saving message of Jesus. Thank you for being part of making this kind of difference in the world. To God be the glory!
